Projects
Each one is a story: what was going wrong, what I tried, what happened. Technical depth is there if you want it, and I am happy to go further in a conversation.
- 2022
Monitor arm tilt mechanism: saving a $500K sale in three months
A 55% failure rate, 20 suspects, 3 root causes and a customer who needed an answer in a quarter.
- 2021–2022
Float Table: redesigning how a drive belt fails
The old connection passed every required test. The field found what the tests did not.
- Early in my tenure
From shared-drive folders to SolidWorks PDM
A long-running pain point, a company-wide switch, and the one-page flowchart that helped people use it.
- 2025
Float Micro Table: concept to Red Dot
Development lead on a product that won a 2025 Red Dot Design Award.
- 2018 co-op, lighting team
Circadian task light: proving the physics before the styling
Could a desk lamp deliver enough of the right light, comfortably, to move a body clock?
- 2021
UFEA: one accessory, three mounting systems
A legacy monitor-arm accessory redesigned for a new mounting system, with a hazardous mode designed out and a mistake caught early.
- Humanscale
Lounge chair desk arm: leading a stalled product as an outsider
A product with no settled definition, no engineering manager, and a team that did not know me.
- 2019–2021
QuickStand Eco 2: CAD, cables, color and a bad spring
Third-generation aftermarket sit-stand desktop product, built under a very exacting mentor.
- 2019–2020
A brake that worked and never shipped
Technically successful, shelved for risk. A lesson in involving the whole company early.
- 2019–2021
Field returns: defect or misuse?
Helping quality tell a real defect from a safety that did its job.
- 2018–2019
Three versions of the truth: reconciling a product's CAD
After production moved overseas, the CAD, the factory's files and the physical product all disagreed.
Earlier and smaller work
- Aug 2018–May 2019
NAVAIR capstone: mechanized ordinance loader
Led an interdisciplinary team to design and build the fourth-generation prototype of a shipboard ordinance loading system for NAVAIR, with FEA and test planning.
- Aug 2018–May 2019
NASA RASC-AL: lunar tug refueling concept
Proposed an orbital refueling method borrowed from cosmetics bag-and-valve packaging, supported by FEA on 3D-printed structures.
- Humanscale
Float Table cable audit
Used a reverse BOM breakdown to negotiate lower prices and fewer parts with a cable supplier.
- Humanscale
Sustainability and materials compliance
Chemical BOM breakdowns, red-list screening with suppliers and comparison testing, so material problems surfaced before development rather than after.
- Jan–May 2017
Avon: packaging and transit testing
Packaging design and transit-test failure analysis. Where I learned to test to find problems, not to pass.
- Jun–Aug 2016
Hydraulic Institute: standards and efficiency documentation
Supported pump-efficiency standard updates and learned to read and apply technical standards, a skill that carried into BIFMA and UL work.
- Aug–Dec 2015
Saint-Gobain: plant safety and process
Engineered safety controls and wrote work instructions in a plant setting; first exposure to Six Sigma.
